Who was Jayashree?

The iconic actress, Jayashree, has acted across Hindi, Marathi and other regional cinema, garnering recognition for stellar performances in notable films like Shakuntala (1943), Dr Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani (1946), Dahej (1950) and Parchhaiyan (1952). In several films produced under Shantaram’s banners, including Shakuntala and Dr Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, Jayashree cemented herself as a leading actress of her time. She has been a co-star in Shakuntala, Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, Dahej and others, and the upcoming biopic will not just see Tamannaah bringing life to Jayashree’s era, but it will also show her displaying the emotional curve of an actress who performed more than act.

As she brings two decades of experience to the role, and becomes the top pick to play the character, she sets it straight that no other actress could do it better than her, and the recently released poster proves so! The biopic, directed by Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande, revisits the journey of one of Indian cinema’s most influential storytellers.
