Taapsee added, “In the South, they are often asked to wear a padded bra. And the problem is, who does the director even tell on set? Imagine how embarrassing it would be.”
Actress Taapsee Pannu has successfully dabbled with both the South and the Hindi film industry. The one Bollywood film that made the day for her was Neeraj Pandey’s Baby back in 2015. And ever since then, she has made a niche for herself in the industry. Pannu was recently seen in Anubhav Sinha’s courtroom drama Assi which chronicles the horrors of rape.
In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, the actress spoke about the difference between South and Bollywood, the industry’s obsession with actress’ navels and much more and this is what she quipped- “I’m also trying to understand. It’s not that item songs in Hindi cinema don’t focus on it, but it’s not as much as in South Cinema. Hindi cinema is more about cleavage.”
Taapsee added, “In the South, they are often asked to wear a padded bra. And the problem is, who does the director even tell on set? Imagine how embarrassing it would be. You’re shooting a song, someone gets up in the middle, walks off, everyone knows exactly what’s happening. All the men are sitting there, watching what looks different when you come back.”
In its review of the film, Firstpost wrote- “
_Assi_ is a film that’s purposely lying low key. The makers aren’t making any noise about what the film is about. It grapples with a grave theme that ought not to be promoted the way Bollywood films are promoted. One can’t expect the cast to laugh on limping quips on a comedy show or tell Salman Khan they are hardcore fans of Bigg Boss. Sinha wishes the audiences discover the film on their own.”
It also observed, “And know the brutal reality of a nation on the brink. Assi does it right in the beginning what others save for the finale- A statistical analysis of how rapes continue to horrify women and India. This is not the story of just one woman (A lingering Kani Kusruti, the breakout performer of
_All We Imagine As Light_).”
