Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been a part of the Hindi film industry for the last three decades. His most collaborations have happened with filmmakers like Ram Gopal Varma, David Dhawan, and of course Priyadarshan. Yadav made his directorial debut with a film called Ata Pata Laapata in 2010 which failed commercially.

The actor was unable to replay the loan he took to make the film and the cheques given by him and his wife bounced. He has been sentenced after he surrendered himself reportedly saying, “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain (sir, we are alone here). There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”

On February 4, 2026, the court rejected a “mercy plea” for a week’s extension to arrange funds, as the judge observed that Yadav had failed to honour nearly 20 different undertakings in the past. The court maintained that the law rewards compliance rather than contempt and criticised the actor for showing “scant respect” for judicial orders.

Sonu Sood steps in

The actor tweeted- “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors, colleagues to stand together.”

Sood added, “A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”
