How would one describe 2025? It’s been a really hectic year. There are wars being waged, conflicts being fought, protests dismantling established governments and much more. We have also lost some important personalities this year — Ratan Tata, Pope Francis among countless others.

But it’s not been all bad, either. Even as we felt the world around us was collapsing because of the ongoing unrest, there were a few moments — a few events — that got us chuckling and going LOL — Laugh out Loud.

So, as we wrap up this year and gear up for what we hope is a better and happier 2026, here’s a recap of the funniest moments.

The Labubu craze

This year, social media was abuzz with one particular toy — the Labubu. Wherever you went, whatever you saw, that mischievous little monster with the oversized bunny ears and a toothy grin was impossible to ignore.

But if you missed out on it for whatever reason, here’s a recap of how Labubus became the world’s most favourite and funniest toy in 2025. It all began as a quirky character in a children’s book written by Hong Kong-born artist Kaising Lung. Inspired by Nordic fairy tales, especially those about elves, he launched an illustrated book series called The Monsters in 2015, featuring a playful tribe of female elves known as Labubus.

Soon after, Lung released an artistic toy series inspired by the characters. But the toy collection did not cause a global craze until he teamed up with the Chinese toy company POP MART in 2019. And in 2025, the Labubu craze exploded, sparking a $22.7 billion economic wave.

Today, Labubus are spotted on the bags of pop singers like Dua Lipa, Rihanna, and Lisa from the K-pop group BLACKPINK. They have also spawned a counterfeit version known as Lafufus, garnering millions in dollars all on their own.

Whether or not these toys are in fact “cute” is up for debate. But there’s no denying that their toothy, mischievous grins and furry bodies have become a global sensation.

The secret to Modi’s glowing skin is…

What would you ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi if you had an opportunity to meet him? Some would ask the Indian PM about his policies, others would perhaps ask him about his beliefs and inspiration.

But not Harleen Deol, who is part of India’s women’s cricket team that lifted the ICC World Cup trophy. When the winning squad met PM Modi after their remarkable win against South Africa, Deol, the top-order batter, asked Modi: “Sir, I have to ask you a question about your skincare routine,” adding, “You glow too much.”

Hearing the question, everyone including the PM burst out laughing.

Modi then responded, “I haven’t thought about it much. I have the blessings of so many people. It’s been 25 years in power — being head of the government has its own effect.”

This resulted in head coach Amol Muzumdar jumping in, saying, “Sir, you’ve seen the kind of questions I have to deal with. It’s been two years as head coach —‘baal safed ho gaye mere’ (my hair has turned grey answering such questions)!”

Talk about a Lol moment!

Aura farming yourself to fandom

In 2025, traditional farming gave way to aura farming and a little Indonesian boy got us in splits with his ‘aura farming’.

Back in January, 11-year-old Rayyan Arkan Dikha became an overnight sensation when a video of his went viral online. It was during the national Pacu Jalur boat race, which roughly translates to “boat race” that Dikha, wearing sunglasses, was balancing on the tip of a long racing boat and doing what is possibly the world’s coolest dance.

When asked about his moves, Dikha said his dance was never planned. “No-one taught me … it was just spontaneous.”

And it is this that spontaneity sparked a wave of imitation online, from content creators to international athletes. Even Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto was seen grooving to the moves.

When Musk’s son ‘shushed’ Trump

Very few, actually nobody, would be able to boast about telling the US president to keep quiet. But in February 2025, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk’s son, X Æ ‘X’ A-Xii, aka li’l X, apparently did the impossible.

The
child’s antics at the White House, which got the internet laughing, came when Elon Musk, then the US First Buddy, was addressing concerns and queries about the Department of Government Efficiency, aka Doge.

In clips that have circulated, the child is seen whispering bizarre statements to Trump. At one point, it appears that the four-year-old tells the US president to “shut up”. He then turns sideways and begins picking his nose, even wiping his finger on the iconic Resolute Desk.

Another clip shows Musk’s son confronting Trump, who tries to look away. The muffled voice of the child can be heard saying, “You’re not the President. You need to go away.”

While some argued that the remarks weren’t what they seemed, it soon became meme fodder and got us laughing for days and days, and days.

Trump shows off his dancing moves

He’s no Hrithik Roshan or Fred Astaire, but that hasn’t stopped US President Donald Trump from busting out his dance moves. From his campaigning days to events , Trump’s signature moves —swaying the hips, fist pumping the air, and sometimes even a golf swing — has caught the attention of people across the world.

As recently as the 2026 Fifa World Cup draw, the US president was seen bopping excitedly in his seat as the Village People took to the stage to close out the live draw with their famous song —
_YMCA_. At one point, Trump, who was sitting next to his wife, Melania, even got out of his seat to perform his famous shimmy as pop group shook their booties on stage.

In October, he once again showed off his dancing talents when he made his arrival at the Kuala Lumpur airport after a 23-hour flight. In a video that has gone viral since then, the 79-year-old is seen dancing to the beat of drums on the airport tarmac near Air Force One, his energetic moves drawing smiles from those around him.

Even just a day before his inauguration, Trump was seen dancing to the tunes of YMCA, while supporters waved signs, tossed their hands up in the air to the key letters and cheered.

Katy Perry’s dramatic landing

Pop singer Katy Perry has many accomplishments to her name. And in 2025, she added another, by becoming the first pop star to go into outer space.

In April, she along with other notable female celebrities
Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Kerianne Flynn, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and astronaut Amanda Ngyuen made history as the first all-female team to
travel to space since 1963. Known as the Blue Origin crew, the ladies embarked on an 11-minute round-trip journey to outer space’s edge before landing in West Texas.

It was what happened during the landing that got the internet sniggering. When the 40-year-old emerged from the rocket, she dramatically raised her hands to the sky and kissed the earth.

Cue the internet’s reaction. As one X user wrote, “Oh, dramatic. You were there for 20 seconds, miss girl.” A second noted, “Katy behaving like she’s returning after being stuck on another planet and not like she’s been in space for a whole two minutes.”

Drunk raccoon becomes our spirit animal

In November, the world couldn’t stop laughing when they heard about an American liquor store trashed by a drunken raccoon who went on a wild bender through the shop and was discovered blacked out in its bathroom.

It all began when an officer was asked to investigate reports of a break-in at a store in Virginia. When the law enforcement official reached the site, she was greeted by a soaked aisle that reeked of booze and was littered with smashed bottles.

The investigations then led the cop to the bathroom, where she discovered the raucous raccoon sleeping it off in between a toilet and a bin. The sozzled suspect was rumbled and described as “very intoxicated” by Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter.

But it doesn’t stop there. The incident with the raccoon earned its own impersonation on the hit comedy show “Saturday Night Live”. Moreover, the store that was broken into crafted three cocktails inspired by the raccoon’s mischievous behaviour.

Talk about not getting their spirits down!
