Freshly unsealed files linked to notorious sex offender
Jeffrey Epstein have brought to light a 2009 email that mentions acclaimed filmmaker and mother of New York’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Mira Nair, in connection with a gathering at Ghislaine Maxwell’s Manhattan townhouse.

The message, sent in the early hours of October 21, 2009, by publicist Peggy Siegal, surfaced in documents released on Friday by the US Department of Justice. It refers to an afterparty associated with Nair’s film Amelia and lists several well-known attendees. The email forms part of a much wider disclosure concerning Epstein’s activities and contacts.

Email referencing Nair and industry figures

The email describes Siegal leaving the afterparty at Maxwell’s home following an event tied to Nair’s 2009 film Amelia.

“Just left Ghislaine’s townhouse after party for film,” Siegal wrote in the early-morning message dated October 21, 2009. She added that the gathering was attended by former US President Bill Clinton and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, along with Mira Nair.

The email goes on to comment on the reception of Amelia, writing that the film received a tepid reaction, before describing other industry events Siegal planned to attend. The message was one of hundreds of thousands of documents unsealed as part of the Justice Department’s latest disclosure related to Epstein’s crimes and his interactions with prominent figures.

Nair directed Amelia, a biographical drama starring Hilary Swank as aviator Amelia Earhart and Richard Gere as her husband, publisher George Putnam.

What the latest Epstein files include

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the Justice Department has released more than three million pages of records in its latest disclosure tied to Jeffrey Epstein, along with over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images.

The material, posted on the department’s website, includes documents that officials said were withheld from an initial release in December while they reviewed an additional trove and redacted sensitive information to protect victims. The newly released batch contains records involving several high-profile figures, including Prince Andrew, as well as email correspondence between Epstein and Elon Musk and other prominent contacts spanning politics, business and culture.

The disclosures were made under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, passed after months of public and political pressure demanding greater clarity on the government’s handling of the Epstein investigation and his ties to powerful individuals, including his long-time associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

“Today’s release marks the end of a very comprehensive document identification and review process to ensure transparency to the American people and compliance with the act,” Blanche said at a news conference.
