Mumbai Climate Week 2026 begins on a powerful note with Dia Mirza moderating key discussions on climate action, joined by global leaders and a special message from Prince William, highlighting India’s growing role in sustainability and innovation.
Mumbai Climate Week commenced on a significant and impactful note as actor, producer and UN Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza joined climate leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and sustainability advocates from across India and the Global South at the inaugural event.
As part of the opening day proceedings, Dia moderated a panel discussion titled Rewriting the Climate Future, featuring Rajiv Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation, and Mridula Ramesh, founder of the Sundaram Climate Institute. The discussion focused on the urgent need for inclusive climate action, innovation, and accountability in the face of escalating environmental challenges.
Speaking on the importance of such global platforms, Dia said, “Climate action is no longer a distant policy conversation. It is about the air we breathe, the water we depend on, and the dignity of communities already living with climate impact. Platforms like Mumbai Climate Week create the courage and collaboration we need to turn urgency into accountability and innovation into inclusion.”
Later in the day, Dia introduced the team from The Earthshot Prize, the prestigious global environmental award founded by Prince William to accelerate solutions addressing critical environmental challenges. Attendees were also presented with a special video message from Prince William, who emphasised the importance of international collaboration and highlighted India’s growing leadership in climate innovation.
Organised by Project Mumbai in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the three-day summit is being hosted at the Jio World Cultural Centre in BKC. The event focuses on key themes such as sustainability, renewable energy, electric mobility and climate resilience, with parallel engagements taking place across the city throughout the week.
As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable megacities, Mumbai’s role in advancing climate resilience has become increasingly critical. Mumbai Climate Week aims to initiate meaningful dialogue, foster partnerships and promote scalable solutions to strengthen urban sustainability frameworks.
With participation from civic bodies, global foundations, industry leaders and grassroots organisations, the summit seeks to position Mumbai as a central hub for climate discourse and action in South Asia, reinforcing the city’s commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient future.
