Dhurandhar, the Ranveer Singh-starrer action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, has become the centre of a fresh controversy after filmmaker Shazia Iqbal, director of Dhadak 2, labelled the film “sinister” and accused it of inciting hate and violence. Dhadak 2 director calls Dhurandhar ‘sinister’

In a series of Instagram story or made private, Iqbal
criticised _Dhurandhar_’s narrative, calling it “sinister” and alleging that its portrayal of certain themes could fuel negative sentiments. She directly did not name the film but added the film’s title track in the background and wrote, “What a sinister film! It’s not hidden, it’s not unintentional — inciting hate and violence is in the DNA of the film.”

Iqbal also suggested that storytelling should avoid glorifying violence or ideologies that might be interpreted as endorsing social hostility. In another post, she wrote, “But it’s a ‘well-made’ film, guys… with some cool BGM. Well done, industry dude bros. Glad that most of y’all don’t care about minorities enough to even hide your blatant apathy,”

Her comments drew both support and criticism from followers before her Instagram page was set to private, reducing access to the remarks and ongoing discussion.

Dhurandhar and audience debate

_Dhurandhar_, featuring Ranveer Singh in a high-octane role, has been widely discussed for its blend of action, patriotism and contemporary themes. While the film has enjoyed strong box office performance and attention from fans, its political undertones have also generated debate about the intersection of entertainment, national identity and ideology.

Social media reaction and industry response

Following Iqbal’s posts, reactions across social platforms ranged from support for her expressing personal views to criticism of dismissing a film’s creative choices. Some commentators defended Dhurandhar as a mainstream commercial entertainer, while others echoed concerns about how films can influence public perception.
