A design patent for JSW Motors’ upcoming debut model – based on the Jetour T2 SUV – has been filed in India. JSW Motors teased this T2-based offering last week as the fledgling Indian carmaker commenced dealer recruitment ahead of its Diwali 2026 debut, barring any delays. The design patent was first submitted on December 18, 2025 by Chery Automobile – the parent company of Jetour – and was approved on February 27, 2026.

Jetour T2-based SUV design patent: What does it reveal?

Little to no tweaks for the India-spec model’s design

As indicated by last week’s teaser, the design patent seemingly confirms that JSW Motors will implement minimal changes to the Jetour T2’s boxy and rugged styling. Up front, it features squarish LED headlights connected by a black trim piece with six extruded squares – these carry ‘JETOUR’ lettering on the international-spec T2, but the India-spec model is expected to sport JSW branding.

A honeycomb-patterned grille can also be seen, and the muscular bumper has one fog lamp and two pairs of pixel DRL clusters on each side. The bonnet is quite contoured and has grab handles on both sides, and moving further to the side, we can see door-mounted ORVMs in the design patent, which is interesting since the shown in the teaser had ORVMs affixed to the A-pillars.

The gaps in the roof rails slightly differ from the international-spec T2 as well, but everything else, like the alloy wheels, flared wheel-arch cladding, window line, and more are identical. It remains to be seen what the India-spec T2 looks like from the rear, but if the rest of the design is any indication, expect little to no changes from the model sold globally.

Jetour T2 powertrain details

Plug-in hybrid powertrain with 139km of claimed electric range

JSW Motors will bring the plug-in hybrid ‘i-DM’ version of the T2 to India (EV and petrol counterparts are also available globally), which marries a 156hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 26.7kWh battery with either a sole front-mounted (FWD) or dual (AWD) motor setup. It’s currently unclear whether JSW Motors will offer the FWD, AWD, or both versions of the plug-in hybrid T2 in India.

Combined powertrain output for the AWD T2 stands at 381hp and 610Nm – this may be tuned down in India in the interest of fuel efficiency – routed to the wheels via a 3-speed DHT. The battery pack delivers an NEDC-certified all-electric range of 139km, while the combined driving range is pegged at over 1,000km.
