The partnership aims to shift bulk cement movement from road to rail, aligning with India’s broader goal of promoting sustainable and efficient freight transport. Under the agreement, CONCOR will deploy dedicated rakes for cement transportation along key rail corridors, enabling a more predictable, lower-emission, and cost-efficient logistics network.
By leveraging the Indian Railways’ expansive network and CONCOR’s expertise in multimodal logistics, the collaboration seeks to streamline UltraTech’s supply chain, reduce road congestion, and lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The agreement was formally signed in New Delhi in the presence of K.C. Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement, and Sanjay Swarup, Chairman and Managing Director of CONCOR.
Industry experts note that this initiative could serve as a template for similar green logistics partnerships across other sectors such as steel, fertilizers, and petroleum, as India works toward decarbonising its freight ecosystem.
