Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Malaysia on Saturday to bolster ties between New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur. The PM will be in the Asian nation from 7 to 8 February 2026, at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It is pertinent to note that the visit reciprocates Ibrahim’s official visit to India in August 2024.
According to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PM Modi will be accompanied by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar along with other senior government officials. Upon arriving in Malaysia, PM Modi will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya, on February 8, 2026.
After this, he will hold a bilateral meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister at the Seri Perdana Complex, Putrajaya. According to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two leaders are expected to take stock of Malaysia-India bilateral relations and explore further collaboration, particularly in trade and investment, defence and security, labour, tourism, connectivity, agriculture, and education.
What’s in store
The discussion between the two leaders would also include regional and international issues of mutual interest. “Following the meeting, both Leaders will witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of combating and preventing corruption, standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers, and disaster management; an Agreement on audio-visual production, etc.,” the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
“In 2025, total trade deals between Malaysia and India reached RM79.49 billion (USD18.59 billion). Malaysia’s total exports to India amounted to RM52.30 billion (USD12.24 billion), and total imports amounted to RM27.19 billion (USD6.35 billion),: it furthered.
Overall, the visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and foster enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building upon the strong foundation of friendship between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1957, and the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.
