BLA has released a video showing a woman ‘fidayeen’ (suicide attacker) who took part in one of the deadliest attacks in Pakistan’s Balochistan province over the weekend. The footage captures Hawa Baloch firing at Pakistani security forces.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has released a video showing a woman ‘fidayeen’ (suicide attacker) involved in a large-scale assault across Pakistan’s Balochistan province over the weekend, one of the deadliest operations in recent years. In the footage, the attacker, identified as Hawa Baloch, is seen firing at Pakistani security forces during phase two of the BLA’s Operation Herof at the Gwadar Front.

“During Operation Herof, Phase Two at the Gwadar Front, Fidayee Hawa Baloch fought selflessly, shoulder to shoulder with fellow Fidayeen. This was her final message, sent twelve hours before her death,” the BLA said in a statement accompanying the video.

The clip, apparently recorded on a phone camera during late-night hours, captures the final moments of Baloch’s life as she confronted Pakistani forces.

‘No other way left for us’: Hawa Baloch’s message to her people

In the video, Baloch addresses the camera directly, urging the Baloch nation to rise. “Baloch nation, today one of your sisters is facing the Punjabi army. Now you people should come with courage. There is no other way left for us,” she says.

She adds, “Pakistan is not coming forward out of fear. Pakistan cannot face us. Today is the day of joy. Today, we are facing the enemy. Today, we will show the enemy that Baloch mothers and sisters were not and will not be abandoned.”

Dressed in a red and blue kurta and a baseball cap with the BLA logo, she smiles while firing her rifle. When another attacker asks, “How’s the war?” she replies, “War is fun.”

‘The enemy is a coward’

Hawa Baloch also taunts Pakistani troops, “We are just waiting for the enemy; the enemy is nowhere to be seen. The enemy is a coward; they are just firing from afar, and they do not dare to come forward. Today you will face Baloch women freedom fighters. Today you will know how tough it is to face Baloch women.”

She further claims her team killed all Pakistani security personnel near the Gwadar Front. “Today, there is mourning in the enemy ranks; there are sounds of crying and mourning everywhere… They only show their power over our oppressed mothers and sisters. They can’t confront us directly. It’s beyond their capabilities,” she adds.

The video concludes showing the bloodied corpses of Hawa Baloch and another fighter lying on the ground.

Who is Hawa Baloch?

Media reports describe Hawa Baloch as a Gen Z woman whose father, a BLA fighter, was killed by Pakistani security forces in 2021. She reportedly received a formal education before joining the insurgency, highlighting a growing trend of young, educated individuals participating in the decades-long Baloch separatist movement.

Heavy losses on both sides

The Pakistan military said 92 separatists were killed on Saturday and 41 on Friday during counter-operations against BLA forces. The BLA confirmed 18 of its own fighters were killed during the operation, including 11 ‘fidayeen’ of the Majeed Brigade, four fighters from the Fateh Squad, and three from the STOS unit.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest yet least populated province, has long witnessed an insurgency led by separatist groups demanding greater autonomy or independence. The BLA is among the most prominent of these groups and is designated a terrorist organisation by Pakistan and several other countries. Despite repeated military crackdowns, the BLA continues to receive notable civilian support.
