Albanese was moved from The Lodge at around 6 pm local time while security agencies carried out an investigation. He was relocated to a separate secure location for several hours and returned to the residence at about 9 pm after inspections were completed.
The Australian Federal Police said a thorough search of the protected premises found nothing suspicious and confirmed there was no ongoing threat to public safety. The Prime Minister’s office expressed confidence in the police response and thanked security personnel for their work.
The AFP, which is responsible for protecting federal parliamentarians and key Commonwealth sites including The Lodge and Parliament House, has previously reported a rise in threats and harassment targeting Australian political figures.
Separately, Albanese said his government would communicate with Commonwealth nations regarding Australia’s position on changes to the British royal line of succession, a move that would require coordination with other realms that recognise King Charles III as head of state.
