Australian police responded to a developing shooting incident at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, with one suspect shot and another arrested.
Australian authorities launched an emergency response on Sunday after reports of gunfire near Bondi Beach, one of Sydney’s most popular locations, prompting warnings for people to stay away from the area and seek safety.
People in Bondi reported hearing up to 50 gunshots, with individuals seen on the ground in the vicinity of Campbell Parade. A man believed to be one of the shooters was shot by police, while another man, believed to be a second shooter, was arrested, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
Police issue shelter warning
Police urged members of the public to avoid the area and advised anyone already at the scene to take shelter. Australian police confirmed the situation was ongoing as they responded to what they described as a developing incident.
“Police are responding to a developing incident at Bondi Beach and are urging the public to AVOID the area. Anyone at the scene should take shelter,” New South Wales police said in a statement on social media.
