Ather Energy is one of the few Indian start-ups to find enduring success in the Indian market in the face of intense competition from both established OEMs and other new-age start-ups. The company’s painstaking, long-game approach to its products and services is partly to thank for its success. What has also helped it is strategic expansion into different markets in a phase-wise manner. Just a few years ago, finding an Ather showroom would be restricted to one of the major metropolitan cities across India but now, the company has opened up dealerships in smaller towns, making its lineup more readily available across our country.
Between June-August 2025, Ather says it has added 101 new showrooms alone. Of these, more than 58 have been opened across Middle and North India (a region where its presence wasn’t as widespread as South and West India). In South India as well, where Ather is at the forefront of the EV market, the company has continued steady expansion to solidify its market position. Additionally, Ather is also deepening its presence in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, and by end-FY26, it aims to have over 700 across the country.
Currently, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu each have more than 50 Ather showrooms. Ather’s home base, Bengaluru, leads with 18 touch points, followed by Pune and Hyderabad with 13 each, the national capital – Delhi – has 9 while Mumbai and Chennai have 8 each. Ather says its retail expansion is backed by strong consumer demand and rising market share, reflected in the higher market shares it continues to build upon. Ather’s national market share grew to 14.3 percent in Q1 FY26, nearly double from 7.6 percent in Q1 FY25.
While Ather currently only has the sporty 450 and the family-centric Rizta on sale, the company’s new EL platform is expected to grow its model lineup quite significantly, come 2026.
