Kashyap wrote- “Finally our labour of love, angst and all things in between “Kennedy” is coming home after travelling the world on @zee5 .All I can say is I am grateful for having been able to make this film.”
Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy has been awaiting a release since 2023, and happens to be as volcanic and visceral as any of the filmmaker’s earlier works. It will finally stream on Zee5 and this is what the filmmaker has to say about the wait coming to an end.
Kashyap wrote- “Finally our labour of love, angst and all things in between “Kennedy” is coming home after travelling the world on @zee5 .All I can say is I am grateful for having been able to make this film , my team , my producers , my Studio and at the end of the day – jab jab Jo Jo hona hai tab tab so so hota hai .”
The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Screenings section and has since been showcased at numerous global festivals — including the Sydney International Film Festival, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (South Korea), Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (Switzerland), MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival, Indie Meme Film Festival (Austin, Texas), Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, London Indian Film Festival, Fantastic Fest (USA), the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, and the Kolkata International Film Festival, among others.
Written during the lockdown and shot extensively across the nights of Mumbai over a tight 30-day schedule, Kennedy is a dark, atmospheric thriller that follows an insomniac ex-cop long presumed dead who continues to operate within a corrupt system while secretly searching for redemption. The film’s haunting background score, recorded in Prague with the Prague Philharmonic Choir, further elevates the moody, immersive experience.
In its review of the film that was at showcased at
Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Firstpost wrote- “Despite the music in the background, there’s devastating silence that surrounds the room and maybe the protagonist’s life. An appropriately bruised Rahul Bhat is trapped between an unhappy past and an uncertain future. You can see there’s a lot happening even when the characters stay quiet.”
It added, “The setting is the pandemic, and the emptiness on the streets only makes Kennedy aka Uday Shetty’s job easier. The screen goes black after every few minutes and tells us about the number of nights remaining for THE NIGHT. It’s a cliffhanger and the reveal is partly amusing.”
