On Anthropic’s office in Bengaluru, Amodei described it as a clear signal of the company’s commitment to India. “India has an absolutely central role to play — both in terms of opportunity and risks,” he said.
Anthropic has partnered with major Indian enterprises, including Infosys, and said its models will be deployed to advance sectors such as education and agriculture.
The company is also collaborating with Karya on evaluation and metrics, as it builds India-specific testing and assessment capabilities.
On the risks side, Amodei said India, as the world’s largest democracy, can be both a partner and a global leader in addressing the economic and security implications of AI.
He said Anthropic would like to work with India on testing and evaluation frameworks to better understand AI risks, adding that the country can help shape global standards on safety.
While AI could significantly grow the economic pie, he acknowledged that it may also cause disruption. “We need to work closely with governments to manage that disruption,” he said, expressing enthusiasm about exchanging insights with the Indian government to help shape policies that address AI’s economic impact.
The summit remarks come amid Anthropic’s deepening push into India.
On February 16, the company announced its second Asia office in Bengaluru — after Tokyo — a month after naming Irina Ghose as Managing Director for India. The Bengaluru office will focus on hiring local talent across enterprise and applied AI roles. According to Ghose, India is now the second-largest market globally for Claude.ai usage.
Speaking at an event in Bengaluru earlier this week, Amodei said Anthropic’s business run rate has doubled in the past four months since his previous visit to India, calling himself “amazed” by the intensity of Claude AI usage in the country.
A day later, on February 17, Infosys shares rose as much as 4% after announcing a strategic collaboration with Anthropic to develop enterprise AI solutions across telecommunications, financial services, manufacturing and software. The partnership will initially focus on telecom, with plans to set up a dedicated Anthropic Center of Excellence and integrate Anthropic’s Claude models, including Claude Code, with Infosys Topaz AI offerings.
