Amid ongoing India-US talks, Vinay Kwatra, the Indian envoy to the United States, held a meeting with US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor at US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
In a post on X, Kwatra said they had “extensive discussions on our shared goal to strength trade ties, as also his plans and priorities for our bilateral partnership as he prepares to assume his responsibility as the U.S Ambassador to India!”
The meeting is the latest in the series of high-profile engagements between the two sides. Earlier this month, a high-level US delegation led by Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer was in India to hold talks with an Indian delegation led by Union Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal. As the delegation-level talks drew to a close, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump held a telephonic conversation.
At the time, it was reported that the US delegation’s visit was aimed at bridging any differences to reach a trade deal by the end of the month. But there has not yet been any confirmation of any deal so far.
Happy to connect with @USAmbIndia Sergio Gor in Mar-a-Lago

Previously, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer had said India had submitted the “best” proposal so far in ongoing trade talks.
Greer said that “they’ve been quite forward-leaning” and added that India could become “a viable alternative market” for US commodities at a time when American farmers are facing inventories and fluctuating demand from China, according to NDTV Profit.
As per reports, India had submitted a proposal last month, but no deal has yet been reached. Trump has pressed India to open up agriculture and dairy sector to US exporters and ease regulations in many sectors.
Despite talks and high-profile meetings, India has remained subjected to 50 per cent American tariffs — the highest in the world.
