Eric Dane’s Battle With ALS

Eric Dane, best known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, had been battling ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes gradual muscle weakness and loss of mobility. By June 2025, he reportedly lost the use of his right arm and became increasingly dependent on round-the-clock care. The actor appeared on Good Morning America, where he talked about dealing with just ‘one functioning arm’ and said, “My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working. I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”

In a December 2025 essay, his ex-wife Rebecca Gayheart revealed that Dane required 24/7 nursing support, with care divided into 21 shifts per week. Despite their separation in 2017, the two remained close, co-parenting their daughters Billie and Georgia and supporting each other through his illness.

His family also shared a statement after Eric Dane’s death. As per a report in People, the statement read, “With heavy hearts, we share that
Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received.
