He further added “In fact, with Kriti Sanon, with Deepika, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, I have worked with them before they became actresses but as models.”
Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra, whose work has shaped the visual identity of Hindi cinema for decades, recently reflected on a curious pattern that many in the industry often talk about, his presence during the debut films of several Bollywood leading ladies of today. Over the years, the designer has often been described as a “lucky mascot” for actresses making their debut in films. Addressing the sentiment, Malhotra acknowledged that he has indeed been present during the first shoots of many actresses who went on to become some of the biggest names in the industry.
Recalling these moments on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, Season 3, produced by Gautam Thakker Films, if these actresses such as Alia, Janhvi, Khushi look at him as a Lucky Mascot, he shared ” So it was Rani Mukherjee, first shot for Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat, Karishma Kapoor, Kareena, Ananya Panday for SOTY, Alia Bhatt for SOTY, Deepika Padukone for Om Shanti Om, Tara Sutaria for Student of The Year, Janhvi ofcourse for her first film. So I would say I am their lucky mascot probably but I have seen them grow, I have seen them evolve”
He further added “In fact, with Kriti Sanon, with Deepika, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, I have worked with them before they became actresses but as models. At that time I did a lot more costumes and lesser mainstream, I was just getting into mainstream. I have seen their journey from being newcomers to being established actress to now being mothers.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, the designer has stepped into film production with his banner Stage 5 Productions, marking a new chapter in his career.
