Recalling her memories of shooting this song, the actress revealed, “So as you know in the song Soni Soni, I was the only one who didn’t have colour on her.”

The nation is still celebrating the festival of colours that is Holi but a lot of people on social media complain we haven’t had a good Holi song from Bollywood in a long time. Are those days of celebrating the festival on celluloid long gone? One of the numbers is Soni Soni from Mohabbatein (2000).

It had Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai along with all the other actors who began with this Aditya Chopra directorial 26 years back. One of them is Preeti Jhangiani. Recalling her memories of shooting this song, the actress revealed, “So as you know in the song Soni Soni, I was the only one who didn’t have colour on her and nobody was supposed to put colour on me as well because as you know in the movie that’s what the circumstances were.”

She added, “And she’s supposed to be all in white. So in a sense it was fun for me to watch everybody getting the colour put on them. To remain clean myself. I remember the song that in spite of me not having all the dance steps, I had to rehearse with everybody. So in spite of the fact that I haven’t done any of the steps in that particular song, I remember every step because I rehearsed with everybody else. I had to rehearse with everybody else. Also besides that, I remember there was one line in the song, the part that said, “This heart has been stopped by the heart.” And I remember I was just not getting the shot right.”

And it was
Shah Rukh who came up to me finally and said that the camera catches every lie and that you must actually sing the song. Now I was very conscious about my voice because it was a deeper voice. So I would never sing, I would just lip sync. And that’s when I realized that anything you do, you have to do it wholeheartedly. And I actually, I listened to his advice and I sang my heart out in that shot and then it was okayed.

Aditya Chopra finally said, yes, I’ve got my shot now. I just remember the song being a lot of fun. It was shot at Film City. And we had a lot of fun, a lot of fun shooting it.
