Actresses breaking bones is always a delight to watch. The days of reducing them and their smoldering aura to mere eye candies are long gone. From combat stunts to bringing in the big guns, here’s looking at actresses who’ve shed the layer of glamour to embrace grit and intensity on-screen.
Priyanka Chopra– The Bluff
We do not have too many actresses who have essayed the role of a pirate in a movie. The actress dons the hat of one in the recently released film now streaming on Prime Video.
In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Priyanka spoke about playing a pirate and said, “I was thinking about how many women have played pirates in movies or substantial parts. I have to ask AI or google after our interview. Just being able to play a female pirate is itself so unique. I did not know that it was possible that women could be Pirates in history until I started doing some research.”
The actress added, “There are so many around in different parts of the world. That was very cool but I had never encountered sword fighting, maybe a little bit very early in my career. So, I had to re-learn working with blades. My costar Karl had a lot of experience with blades so we had to work with equal footing for our characters.”
Triptii Dimri: O’ Romeo
Audiences know her as the lovestruck Laila, but Triptii Dimri explored the action shade in her latest release, O’ Romeo. She raised the stakes of the plot by performing action sequences, handling the gun, and even engaging in chase sequences. This was the Triptii Dimri that the audiences had never seen before, and honestly, she added another feather to her cap of versatility by taking a detour from the glamour and embracing grit and poise.
Alia Bhatt: Jigra
The college girl Shanaya was no more impressed with glamour in Jigra! Alia Bhatt shed layers of the past to perform spine-chilling action sequences in the quest to save her brother, Vedang Raina. Unlike the stylized and slow-motion stunts, Alia Bhatt brought an angry young woman in action, focusing on high-stakes, physical and gritty action.
Bhumi Satish Pednekkar:
Daldal
Bhumi Satish Pednekkar stepped into the shoes of an ambitious cop for the first time in her latest OTT release, Daldal, a psychological crime thriller. The actress performed several shooting sequences and chase sequences with such conviction that it brought incredible believability to her portrayal. Audiences have always loved her in intense roles, and this time, Bhumi truly soared past expectations by returning to the intriguing genre.
