India’s passenger vehicle (PV) market recorded 25 percent year-on-year growth in February 2026, with most major carmakers reporting higher sales compared to the same month last year. Overall, total passenger vehicle registrations stood at 3,70,616 units in February 2026 compared with 2,96,657 units in February 2025.
Maruti Suzuki retains its position as the country’s largest carmaker, while Tata Motors and Mahindra continued their close contest for second place. Hyundai, Kia and Toyota reported steady growth, though Nissan and Honda saw a dip in market share, compared to last year.

Maruti Suzuki
Sales: 153,604 units, Change: 28 percent
Maruti Suzuki reported domestic sales of 153,604 units in February 2026, marking a 28 percent year-on-year increase over February 2025. The company strengthened its market share to 41.4 percent, up from 40.4 percent a year earlier.
While SUVs continued to perform strongly, Maruti’s compact cars such as the Wagon R, Swift and Baleno remained among the month’s top sellers, underlining its grip on the hatchback segment. The Dzire sedan also emerged as the second best-selling car in February, helping the carmaker consolidate its leadership across body styles.
Tata
Sales: 50,654 units, Change: 43 percent
Tata Motors posted domestic sales of 50,654 units in February 2026, registering 43 percent year-on-year growth and staying ahead of Mahindra for the month. The carmaker’s market share improved to 13.7 percent, up from 11.9 percent last year. Volumes continued to be driven by Nexon and Punch as both models continued to be amongst the highest-selling vehicles, with over 19,430 units and 18,748 units sold, respectively. Although sales were lower than the January 2026 peak of 70,222 units, Tata’s February performance reflects sustained demand across its core models.
Mahindra
Sales: 49,900 units, Change: 20 percent
Mahindra reported domestic sales of 49,900 units in February 2026, up 20 percent year-on-year, retaining its third position in the passenger vehicle market. The carmaker is banking on its SUV-led portfolio, with recent launches such as the XUV 7XO and XEV 9S, and the upcoming Scorpio N facelift expected to support volumes in the coming months.
Hyundai
Sales: 45,213 units, Change: 17 percent
Hyundai retained fourth place in February 2026 with domestic sales of 45,213 units, up from 38,557 units a year earlier. Volumes were led by the Creta, which ranked as the fourth highest-selling car of the month with 17,938 units, while the recently updated Venue continues to contribute steadily.
Toyota
Sales: 26,095 units, Change: 14 percent
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported domestic sales of 26,095 units in February 2026, up 14 percent year-on-year. The brand continues to draw volumes from models like the Innova, Hyryder and Fortuner. Toyota recently revealed its first EV for India, the Urban Cruiser EBella, with prices expected to be announced shortly.
Kia
Sales: 24,690 units, Change: 27 percent
Kia India recorded sales of 24,690 units, up 27 percent year-on-year. Growth was driven by the new-generation Seltos and steady demand for the Sonet. Growing interest in the Carens Clavis and its electric derivative also contributed to the brand’s overall momentum during the month.
Skoda Volkswagen
Sales: 7,578 units, Change: 12 percent
Volkswagen–Skoda combined reported sales of 7,578 units in February 2026, up 12 percent year-on-year. Skoda’s Kylaq remained the group’s top-selling model, while the updated Kushaq is set for a price announcement in March. Volkswagen also launched the Tayron R-Line in February at Rs 46.99 lakh(ex-showroom).
JSW MG Motor India
Sales: 4,957 units, Change: 24 percent
JSW MG Motor India posted sales of 4,957 units in February 2026, up 24 percent year-on-year, and was among the few brands to register month-on-month growth. Growth was driven by steady demand for the Windsor EV, it is is one of MG’s bestselling models in India and was also crowned the bestselling EV in India in 2025. MG also revealed the Majestor diesel SUV with booking open and a price announcement due in April 2026.
Honda
Sales: 4,759 units, Change: -11 percent
Honda Cars India was among the few carmakers to report a year-on-year decline in February 2026. The brand sold 4,759 units during the month, down 11 percent YoY and 23 percent compared to January, with sales coming from the City, Amaze and Elevate.
Renault
Sales: 3,240 units, Change: 27 percent
Renault posted domestic sales of 3,240 units in February 2026, up 27 percent year-on-year. The carmaker is expected to gain further momentum in the coming months with the launch of the new-generation Duster scheduled for March.
Nissan
Sales: 1,616 units, Change: -7 percent
Nissan reported domestic sales of 1,616 units in February 2026, down 7 percent year-on-year. The recent launch of the Gravite expands Nissan’s India line-up beyond the Magnite and is expected to support volumes in the months ahead.
