Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans with a fresh simple battery charge after a Mardi Gras bar incident. He posted bond and must attend substance abuse treatment.
Actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested for a second time in less than two weeks in New Orleans, with authorities filing an additional misdemeanour charge of simple battery connected to his earlier arrest during Mardi Gras celebrations.
According to police and court records, LaBeouf, 39, surrendered to authorities on February 28 in connection with an incident that allegedly took place during his February 17 arrest in the city. He was charged with one more count of misdemeanour simple battery, related to the same altercation that led to his initial detention. The actor later posted a bond of $5,000 and was released from custody.
During the February 17 incident, LaBeouf was taken into custody following an alleged altercation at a bar in New Orleans’ French Quarter amid Mardi Gras festivities. Police reports stated that two individuals accused the actor of physically assaulting them, including one man who claimed he was struck in the face with a closed fist, resulting in a suspected nose injury. Authorities also alleged that LaBeouf used a homophobic slur multiple times during the confrontation.
As part of the legal proceedings following his first arrest, LaBeouf had been ordered to enrol in substance abuse treatment, undergo drug testing, and post a $100,000 bond as conditions of his release. His attorney and the New Orleans Police Department have not publicly commented on the latest charge.
The actor, best known for his roles in the Transformers franchise and films such as Honey Boy and Fury, has had a turbulent public history marked by legal issues and personal controversies. In recent interviews, LaBeouf has acknowledged past behavioural problems while expressing scepticism about the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs for him.
The case remains under investigation, and further court proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
