Israel and Iran have both closed their airspace after Israel carried out “preventive” missile strikes on Tehran, prompting emergency alerts and warnings for civilians.
Israel has closed its airspace to all civilian flights as it carries out an attack on Iran, The Times of Israel reported. Iran has also shut down its airspace in response.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid going to airports until further notice.
The Israel Airports Authority, citing the Transport Minister’s order, confirmed the closure of civilian flights. “Passengers currently abroad should stay updated through their airlines and the media on flight schedules once the airspace reopens,” the Transportation Ministry said.
Israelis abroad were advised to follow the instructions of the National Security Council. The ministry added that flights to and from Israel will resume once the security situation allows, with a 24-hour notice before operations restart.
The airspace closure follows Israel’s “preventive” missile strikes on Iranian territory. Witnesses in Tehran reported explosions and smoke rising over the city. Israeli authorities said the strikes targeted imminent threats to national security, with sirens and emergency alerts issued as precautionary measures.
