The short film explores mental health and emotional resilience through a suspense-driven narrative, addressing depression and inner conflict, subjects that are increasingly relevant in today’s fast-paced world
Ahmedabad: Spiritual leader, filmmaker and Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF) founder Omguru has made his acting debut with the Hindi short film Mind Game, further expanding his multi-dimensional engagement with cinema. Produced by Omguru Films, the short film has been submitted to several international film festivals.
Despite being 80 percent physically disabled, Omguru has overcome severe challenges to use cinema, spirituality and art as tools for social inspiration. He has previously directed and written acclaimed films such as Gaamdhani and Vardan Ke Shrap, but Mind Game marks his first on-screen performance.
Sharing his thoughts on the milestone, Omguru said, “This acting debut is not about breaking personal barriers, but changing social perceptions towards the physically challenged. I have always maintained that disability does not need sympathy, it needs opportunity and expression, and cinema gives that voice.”
The short film explores mental health and emotional resilience through a suspense-driven narrative, addressing depression and inner conflict, subjects that are increasingly relevant in today’s fast-paced world. Designed specifically for the international festival circuit, Mind Game reflects a minimalist yet emotionally charged cinematic approach.
Reflecting on his journey, Omguru added, “Cinema has always been my bridge to society. Whether through AIFF or my own films, my purpose is to connect, heal and inspire by action, not words.”
Trained in theatre under renowned Gujarati playwright Hasmukh Baradi in the early 1990s, Omguru continues to inspire thousands, especially those facing despair or thoughts of self-harm. His upcoming suspense Hindi short film Pakit is scheduled to go into production in February 2026.
