Mercedes has issued a recall for the CLE Cabriolet, CLE 53 AMG, and C63 S AMG E-Performance models over a potential failure of its Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) feature under its ADAS suite. The recall affects a total of 149 vehicles, including CLE cabriolet manufactured between September 2, 2024, and March 25, 2025; CLE 53 AMG produced from December 12, 2024, to March 18, 2025, and C63 S AMG E Performance made from October 23, 2024, to November 23, 2024.

  1. 149 units of the C63 S AMG and CLE models have been affected.
  2. Recall issued for models manufactured between 2024 and 2025.

What’s the issue with the Emergency Stop Assist feature?

The feature avoids potential accidents if a driver’s hands aren’t on the steering wheel for a certain period

The emergency stop assist feature helps monitor driver attentiveness and provides prompts to the driver if he/she has his/her hands off the steering wheel for a considerable amount of time. If the prompts are ignored, ESA would bring the vehicle to a halt gradually. Since this function may not work as intended in the aforementioned models, the recall was issued.

How is Mercedes working on rectifying this issue?

It is expected that owners of the affected models will be contacted by Mercedes-Benz. Customers will be directed to visit authorised service centres where the concerned part will be either fixed or replaced free of cost. In the meantime, owners can also contact an official Mercedes dealership for more information.
