A Russian missile struck an Oreo factory in eastern Ukraine, marking the second attack on the site since 2022

A production facility in eastern Ukraine operated by snack manufacturer Mondelez International was struck by a Russian missile on Saturday, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The site, located in the town of Trostyanets, was damaged for the second time since the conflict began in 2022. No casualties were reported.

Sybiha said a production building at the facility, where Oreos are manufactured, had been damaged. The plant had previously sustained heavy damage in 2022 during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, partially reopening in 2023 to resume chocolate production before restarting Oreo manufacturing in 2024.

Company and Kremlin silent

The Chicago-based company, which also produces Ritz crackers, Toblerone and Trident gum, did not respond to requests for comment on Saturday evening. The Kremlin also did not provide a response overnight.

“Targeting American business interests”

Sybiha wrote that the strike had wider implications beyond Ukraine, stating, “When Russian missiles hit such sites, they are not only targeting Ukraine. They are targeting American business interests in Europe.”

The incident comes as the company faces criticism for continuing business activities in Russia during the ongoing conflict.
