Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a bilateral meeting with Navin Ramgoolam at Hyderabad House on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Navinchadra Ramgoolam arrived in India on Wednesday to attend the global AI summit and was received by Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the close partnership between India and Mauritius, noting in a post on X, “Welcome to a close friend and maritime neighbour! Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius @Ramgoolam_Dr was warmly received by Minister of State for Jal Shakti @dr_rajbhushan on his arrival in India for the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Digital cooperation remains a key pillar of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership, anchored in deep-rooted and historic people-to-people ties.”
Ahead of the summit, Mauritian Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning Jyoti Jeetun lauded India’s technology-driven economy and leadership in artificial intelligence. Speaking to ANI on February 13, she said Mauritius considers itself “very privileged” to be part of what she described as the next phase of global technological development.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, hosted at Bharat Mandapam from February 16 to 20, brought together government policymakers, AI industry experts, academicians, technology innovators, and civil society leaders from around the world to advance global discussions on artificial intelligence. The summit, the first global AI event hosted in the Global South, aligns with India’s vision of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (welfare and happiness for all) and the global principle of AI for Humanity.
More than 110 countries, 30 international organisations, around 20 heads of state or government, and about 45 ministers are participating. The summit is part of an ongoing international effort to strengthen cooperation on AI governance, safety, and societal impact.
The event is guided by three foundational pillars — People, Planet, and Progress — which outline principles for human-centric AI, environmentally sustainable technology, and inclusive economic and technological growth.
