Talking to ANI, Tharoor was quoted saying, “The first film, Kerala Story, was a hate-mongering film. It lacked any foundation. They were saying that thousands of people were converted, which is not true.”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has not minced words while talking about the 2023 blockbuster The Kerala Story, which has a sequel coming up releasing in cinemas soon.

Talking to ANI, Tharoor was quoted saying, “The first film, Kerala Story, was a hate-mongering film. It lacked any foundation. They were saying that thousands of people were converted, which is not true. I think there were around 30 such cases over a number of years.”

He added, “Ours is a very big country. If a case occurs here and there, it doesn’t mean you should turn it into a big story and use it as propaganda…What’s the point of saying things that will only spread hatred in people’s minds and are not even correct?… In our childhood, films like Amar Akbar Antony used to get entertainment tax exemption.”

Vipul Shah on film’s UA certificate

The filmmaker was quoted saying, “I am truly grateful to the Censor Board for granting a UA certificate to our film. It reflects their faith in the intent and integrity with which we have told this story. This decision is especially important because it allows us to reach young girls and families across the country.”

Chief Minister
Pinarayi Vijayan slams the film too

It is the responsibility of each of us to ensure that Kerala’s secular foundation is not undermined by false propaganda and to reject it by upholding the values of secularism and brotherhood.
