Kaya Mack, who had just completed a food delivery on campus, said she heard multiple gunshots and soon saw police vehicles rushing through the gates. “Their loud sirens kind of shook me,” she told WLTX-TV, describing confusion among students trying to understand what was happening.

Investigators remained at the scene as law enforcement officers patrolled the campus and surrounding areas. The university has requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to lead the investigation. The school has a student population of fewer than 3,000, and it was the center of two other shootings during homecoming celebrations on Oct. 4, 2025, one of which occurred near the same residential complex.

Following those two shootings, the school announced new safety measures, including new fencing along the campus perimeter and additional security patrols.
