Pays tribute to the first road-going Ducati with desmodromic valves

The Formula 73 celebrates the 750 Super Sport Desmo, the first Ducati road bike equipped with a desmodromic valve timing system. The Super Sport was a replica of the 750 Imola Desmo, with which Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari won the 1972 200 Miglia di Imola – the first European competition for production-derived motorcycles.

This limited-edition motorcycle gets a silver and aqua green livery with a vertical gold stripe on the tank – a nod to the unpainted strip on the 750 Imola Desmo, which allowed teams to check fuel levels. Adding to its café racer styling are the clip-on handlebars with bar-end mirrors and a half fairing.

The Formula 73 is powered by the 803cc Desmodue engine also seen on multiple Scrambler models. Peak output figures are 73hp and 65.2Nm of torque, and Ducati has also equipped the bike with a Termignoni exhaust, featuring details designed specifically for this model.

Other notable components include 17-inch wheels shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, billet aluminium brake and clutch levers, footpegs, and a Rizoma fuel cap. Electronic systems include DTC traction control, Cornering ABS, Ducati Quick Shift, and two riding modes.

Each Formula 73 comes with a certificate of authenticity and a collection of period images and sketches from the Ducati Style Centre, presented in a special box. The model name and serial number are displayed on the steering plate. Ducati has also developed a matching helmet in collaboration with Arai, along with a jacket featuring the Formula 73 livery.
