Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Bangladesh National Party’s Tarique Rahman for winning the country’s elections, saying that the results show “the trust of people” in his leadership.
“India will continue to stand in support of a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multifaceted relations and advance our common development goals,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

BNP has won 213 out of the total 300 seats as of 9:23 am (Indian time), with the party claiming victory in the elections held after the 2024 uprising.
“This victory was expected. It is not surprising that the people of Bangladesh have placed their trust in a party… capable of realising the dreams that our youth envisioned during the uprising,” Salahuddin Ahmed, a leading BNP committee member, told AFP Friday.
