Yash’s upcoming film Toxic has landed in fresh trouble after a Christian group alleged the teaser hurts religious sentiments and filed a complaint with the CBFC. Here’s all about the case, controversy, and film details.
Yash’s upcoming pan-India film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has landed in fresh controversy after a Christian group alleged that scenes from the teaser hurt religious sentiments and filed a formal complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The National Christian Federation (NCF) has objected to certain visuals in the teaser, particularly those involving religious iconography, claiming they are inappropriate and insulting. The group has urged authorities to take immediate action and remove the disputed portions from public platforms.
Christian group files complaint against Toxic
In its complaint, the NCF stated that the teaser features scenes shot in and around a cemetery, with visuals of religious symbols, including a statue of Archangel Michael. According to the organisation, these scenes are “indecent and offensive” and amount to an insult to Christian faith.
Pradeep Kumar, president of the National Christian Federation, said, “Depicting vulgar or inappropriate visuals in front of sacred Christian figures like Saint Michael amounts to an insult to our faith.”
The group has demanded the immediate removal of the controversial scenes from the teaser and from all online platforms, including YouTube. It has also called for a public apology from the makers, warning of legal action if the demands are not met.
What scenes have sparked the row?
The complaint specifically points to a sequence that shows an
intimate scene in a car parked near a cemetery, followed by a violent gunfight at the same location. The presence of religious imagery in these visuals has drawn objections from the Christian body, which claims the portrayal is disrespectful and deeply offensive.
Earlier controversies around the Toxic teaser
This is not the first time Toxic has courted controversy. Soon after the teaser was released, social activist Dinesh Kallahalli had filed a separate complaint with the CBFC, alleging that the visuals were “grossly obscene, sexually explicit, and morally offensive.”
In his complaint, he said, “The content displayed in the trailer of ‘TOXIC’ clearly exceeds these constitutional limits.”
Following massive online backlash, Brazilian actor Beatriz Taufenbach, who features in the teaser, reportedly deactivated her Instagram account amid the outrage.
Filmmakers receive support from industry voices
Despite the criticism, the teaser also found support from sections of the film fraternity. At the Bengaluru International Film Festival, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap defended the teaser, calling the film “an extremely courageous attempt.” He added, “The outrage expressed against the teaser reveals our cultural hypocrisy.”
