PM Modi meets Seychelles President Herminie, maritime security in focus – Firstpost

PM Modi met Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie in New Delhi on Monday to discuss key issues, including maritime security, economic ties, and regional cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Monday during the latter’s state visit to India.

The discussions with PM Modi are expected to focus on bilateral relations, economic development, maritime security, and regional and international issues of mutual interest.

President Herminie arrived in Delhi on Sunday after engagements in Chennai and Mumbai. His visit, which will continue until February 10, is his first to India since taking office in October 2025 and coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Jaishankar meets Seychelles President

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met President Herminie earlier in the day and acknowledged his support for India’s Vision MAHASAGAR. In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed confidence that Herminie’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi would open new avenues for cooperation between New Delhi and Victoria.

Seychelles, a key maritime partner

The Ministry of External Affairs described Seychelles as a key maritime neighbour and an important partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its engagement with the Global South.

During his visit to Chennai, President Herminie, along with Seychelles Health Minister Marvin Nolan Fanny, met SIMS Hospital Chairman Ravi Pachamuthu. They discussed ways to strengthen healthcare services in Seychelles, including medical outreach, hospital infrastructure development, digital health integration, workforce support, affordable medicines, and dialysis expansion.

In Mumbai, Herminie met Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and participated in the India-Seychelles Business Roundtable. Discussions focused on maritime trade, the blue economy, and sustainable development.

During his stay in Delhi, President Herminie is also expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu.
