2 British tourists served notice over ‘Free Palestine’ posters at Pushkar – Firstpost

The Rajasthan Police have served a ‘leave India’ notice to two British tourists after they were found pasting posters carrying the slogan “Free Palestine, Boycott Israel” in public areas of Pushkar, a town that attracts a large number of Israeli tourists, according to a report.

Posters pasted in Israeli-frequented areas

Additional Superintendent of Police (CID, Ajmer Zone) Rajesh Meena told The Indian Express that the two tourists had arrived in India on tourist visas in January and travelled to Pushkar from Delhi. He said the posters were pasted in areas frequented by Israeli visitors, including near a Chabad House.

“The tourists condemned Israel in the context of the Palestine-Israel conflict and pasted posters on walls in Pushkar. Our CID investigated the matter and brought them in for questioning,” Meena said.

The incident came to light on January 21 after local authorities noticed stickers bearing messages such as “Free Palestine, Boycott Israel” at several public locations. Following an investigation, the CID concluded that the act violated local sensitivities and breached visa rules, as political activity is not permitted on a tourist visa.

‘Leave India’ notice issued under immigration law

According to reports, the two UK nationals were identified as Lewis Gabriel Dee, 36, and Anueshi Emma Christine, 36. Meena said a ‘leave India’ notice was issued under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, directing them to leave the country immediately.

He added that the two apologised and were informed that engaging in political activities while on a tourist visa was not allowed. The duo had reportedly printed nine sheets at a local printing press and pasted them across Pushkar.

Why Pushkar draws large numbers of Israeli tourists

Pushkar receives around 10,000 to 11,000 Israeli tourists annually and currently hosts nearly 2,000 Israeli visitors. Many frequent establishments linked to the Chabad community, making the town a popular destination for Israeli travellers.

Israelis have long visited Pushkar as part of a post-military travel tradition. Many travel abroad after completing mandatory military service, with India—particularly Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Goa—remaining a favoured route due to its affordability, spiritual atmosphere and established backpacker ecosystem.
