Bentley has previewed the ‘X’ Concept, an off-road-biased model based on the Bentayga Speed. The carmaker stated to our sister publication, Autocar UK, that the concept was built to ‘stimulate and gain feedback.’ Moreover, the model could likely make it to production as the carmaker’s first off-road-oriented SUV.
- Gets the Bentayga Speeds’ 650hp twin-turbo V8 engine
- Comes with raised ground clearance, wider track, and all-terrain tyres
Bentley Bentayga X Concept details revealed
Gets raised ride height, black elements and an Akrapovic exhaust
Since the concept shares its foundation with the Bentayga Speed, it retains the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, producing 650hp, and features an AWD setup. It gets the Speed’s active anti-roll bars and air suspension system. However, the Concept X gets modifications like 55mm higher ground clearance, bringing it to 310mm. It is also 40mm wider and gets a 120mm wider track for better stability. Furthermore, the water wading capacity is increased to 550mm, and the SUV rides on bespoke 22-inch rims made by Brixton with high-profile all-terrain tyres.
Exterior gets blacked out details and a roof rack
The overall silhouette of the Bentayga has been retained in the X Concept, save for the aforementioned tyres and increased ride height. There are towing mounts on the front bumper, the rims feature a different design, and the lower half of the front bumper, wheel arches, side skirts, and rear splitter receive a blacked-out finish. The Concept X also gets a titanium sports exhaust from Akrapovic and a roof-mounted carrier that features four spotlights.
The concept will participate in the FAT Ice Race
The Concept X will take part in the upcoming FAT Ice Race being held in Salzburg, Austria. TV presenter Chris Harris will be behind the wheel, towing Hedvig Wessel, a Norwegian freestyle skier, in the Skijöring event. Bentley has now joined the list of carmakers bringing off-road-biased versions of their standard models, such as the first-gen Porsche Cayenne, 911 Dakar, and the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato.
