Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association seeks personal intervention from Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis as police probe firing outside Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai home. Meanwhile, four suspects linked to Lawrence Bishnoi gang detained.
Film directors and industry bodies have appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for “personal intervention” in the investigation into the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence, underscoring deep concern in the entertainment fraternity over the safety of creative personalities.
Film body seeks intervention
The Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has written to the chief minister after
multiple rounds were fired near Shetty’s Juhu home in the early hours of Sunday, an episode that has alarmed Bollywood and raised questions about security for high-profile figures. In a letter, the association said the “entire film fraternity is deeply shocked and concerned about the safety and well-being” of the director and urged Fadnavis to personally oversee the probe.
The statement read, “The entire film fraternity is deeply shocked and concerned about the safety and well-being of one of the most respected and iconic filmmakers of the Indian entertainment industry. Such incidents create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, which is unacceptable. We appeal to our Honourable Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis Ji to personally look into the matter, as this grave incident should not shake the morality and confidence of the entertainment industry.”
IFTDA President Ashoke Pandit noted that such incidents create an “atmosphere of fear and insecurity”, and called on the Maharashtra government to ensure that the investigation maintains public confidence. The association also expressed faith in the Mumbai Police’s ability to act swiftly and protect Shetty and his family.
Incident details and arrests
According to police reports, five rounds were fired at Shetty’s multi-storey residence around 12.45 am on Sunday. No injuries were reported, but one bullet struck a glass pane at the building. Heavy security was deployed, and forensic teams were sent to the scene. An FIR has been registered under the Arms Act and other relevant sections.
Pune Police detained four individuals in connection with the case and handed them over to the Mumbai Crime Branch, as per PTI. These suspects were remanded in custody until February 5 by a local court as the investigation continues. Initial findings suggest alleged links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, including suspected involvement of Shubham Lonkar, an accused in the high-profile Baba Siddique murder case.
Threats and social media claims
Hours after the firing, a threatening message surfaced on social media, allegedly from accounts linked to gang affiliates, claiming responsibility and warning that the current incident was a “trailer” and that future violence could be worse if demands were not met. The posts referenced Bollywood figures and urged compliance with unspecified conditions.
Industry reaction and aftermath
In the wake of the incident, Shetty reportedly asked friends and industry colleagues not to visit his residence while the investigation is underway, focusing on cooperation with police and prioritising safety. The substantial response from Bollywood associations reflects growing unease about targeted violence and intimidation affecting figures in the creative community.
