KTM India has silently listed the hardcore off-road focused 390 Adventure R on its website, priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price, the 390 Adventure R – surprisingly – comfortably undercuts the standard 390 Adventure with the spoked wheels, priced at Rs 3.97 lakh.
- 390 Adventure R shares wheels, suspension with 390 Enduro R
- Powered by same 399cc engine making 46hp, 39Nm
- Has similar electronics to the 390 Adventure
KTM 390 Adventure R: all you need to know
It is the most off-road focused 390 Adventure variant
Two of the biggest differences between the standard 390 Adventure and the 390 Adventure R are the suspension and the wheels. The 390 Adventure R comes with the same setup as the 390 Enduro R export-spec model, which means you have 230mm of travel at both ends in comparison to the 200mm/205mm of travel on the regular 390 Adventure. The wheels are also different with the R using a more off-road biased 21/18-in combination with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres, whereas the standard model uses 21/17-in wheels shod with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres.
What these differences translate to is a rather tall 870mm seat height and an abundant 272mm of ground clearance on the 390 Adventure R. The rest of the bike is fairly similar to the current-gen 390 Adventure be it in terms of engine, bodywork, chassis and features. You’ve got the same 46hp/39Nm 399cc single-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter. The bodywork and frame are also largely the same, although the 390 Adventure R comes only in a single white/orange colourway.
With its 14 litre tank brimmed, the UK-spec 390 Adventure R weighs 176kg, which is 6 kilos less than the India-spec standard 390 Adventure. It remains to be seen how much weight government-mandated things like the front number plate holder and saree guard add.
KTM 390 Adventure R price
At Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 390 Adventure R handsomely undercuts the standard 390 Adventure (Rs 3.97 lakh). However, that lower price is likely to be because the R comes with tubed tyres and doesn’t have the more expensive spoked wheels that support tubeless tyres seen on the standard 390 Adventure. Bookings are open for a token amount of Rs 1,999 (fully refundable) as per the KTM India website.
