US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that a secret American weapon was used to disable Venezuelan military equipment during the operation that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, though he refused to share details.

Speaking in an interview, Trump referred to the technology as “The Discombobulator”, adding, “I’m not allowed to talk about it.” He claimed the weapon rendered Venezuelan systems inoperable at a crucial moment.

“They never got their rockets off,” Trump said, alleging that Venezuela had Russian and Chinese-made missiles. “They pressed buttons, and nothing worked. They were all set for us.”

Power blackout in Caracas

Trump has previously suggested that US forces effectively shut down key infrastructure in Venezuela’s capital during the operation. While describing the raid on Maduro’s compound earlier, he said the US had turned off “almost all of the lights in Caracas”, without explaining how the blackout was carried out.

Threats against drug cartels

In the same interview, Trump renewed his threat to use military force against drug cartels, signalling that US operations could expand beyond South America and potentially extend into North America, including Mexico.

“We know their routes. We know their homes. We know everything about them,” Trump said. “We’re going to hit the cartels.”

First strike since Maduro’s capture

The remarks came after the US carried out a strike on an alleged drug-trafficking boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Friday — the first such operation since Maduro’s capture.
