Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, December 30, chaired a meeting with economists at NITI Aayog to deliberate on key economic priorities as India prepares for the next Union Budget.

Sources told CNBC-TV18, the discussions focused on strategies to boost goods exports and diversify services exports, underscoring the need to strengthen India’s global trade footprint. Economists urged the government to maintain its capital expenditure push in the upcoming Union Budget to support growth and investment.

Participants also highlighted the importance of structural reforms, including land reforms to unlock investment and improve productivity. The meeting covered emerging concerns around rising household debt and the need to increase household savings, particularly as economic dynamics shift.

The discussions align with the government’s broader reform agenda for 2025, which emphasises modernising the economy, simplifying tax structures and expanding market access, steps Prime Minister Modi described as part of India’s mission to build a modern, investor-friendly and globally competitive economy.
