An explosion has been reported along with gunfire in Pakistan’s North Waziristan district in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
An explosion and heavy gunfire were on Thursday reported in North Waziristan in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a source told CNN-News18.
The source said the explosion was reported in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali Bazar area.
The report of the explosion and gunfire has come six days after four soldiers were killed an attack on a security forces camp in North Waziristan’s Boya area.
In 2025, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has ramped up the campaign against the Pakistani state. The group has mounted frequent attacks against Pakistani government institutions and soldiers, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and elsewhere in the country’s tribal northwest.
In June, in one of the deadliest attacks in the area in a long time, a suicide bombing killed at least 16 Pakistani soldiers and injured dozens in the same area in North Waziristan.
The TTP’s intensification of the campaign has coincided with the unravelling of the relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers. In October, the two sides had their worst clashes since the Islamist takeover of Afghanistan in which dozens died and hundreds were injured.
With 3,886 killed in 1,047 incidents, the year has been deadliest for Pakistan since 2014, according to South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP).
Along with the TTP, other groups like the Baochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have also ramped up their campaign against Pakistan.
While the TTP is primarily active in the country’s northwest, BLA is active in Balochistan province in the country’s southwest where it has been leading the Baloch self-determination movement for decades. While the TTP wants to overthrow the Pakistani state and build in its place a completely sharia-led state, the BLA wants a nation-state for Baloch people outside of Pakistan’s control.
