James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash earned an estimated USD 345 million worldwide in its first three days, with strong reception in China, but lower figures than other 2025 blockbusters and its own predecessor. The film is lagging behind Dhurandhar in India.

James Cameron’s highly anticipated sci-fi epic Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in the Avatar franchise, has garnered a strong global box office performance over its opening weekend, earning an estimated USD 345 million worldwide by its third day in theaters.

Despite this healthy haul,
_Fire and Ash_ did not match the massive opening totals of its predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water, which launched with significantly higher global numbers in 2022 at USD 441.

The film’s debut also fell short of several other major 2025 releases, including Disney’s Zootopia 2 and Barbie, which posted higher weekend grosses. Nonetheless, analysts say that
_Avatar: Fire and Ash_ remains a strong contender at the box office, with continued interest expected through the holiday season and beyond, a pattern typical of Avatar instalments, which have historically enjoyed sustained box office runs.

In India, trade trackers reported that the movie saw a modest opening weekend, with third-day earnings contributing to its overall domestic performance. It opened at Rs 19 crore, Rs 22.5 crore on Saturday, and witnessed a further rise on Sunday, minting Rs 25.75 crore. The total box office collection of  Avatar 3 is at Rs 67.25 crore nett in India after the opening weekend. It is facing a sharp competition from Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which is going strong even in its third weekend

The Avatar series, known for its pioneering visual effects and immersive world-building, continues to be a major draw for global audiences, even if Fire and Ash’s initial numbers position it behind some of 2025’s biggest cinematic launches.
