Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found murdered in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in a tragedy that has shocked fans and the entertainment world. The couple’s youngest daughter, Romy Reiner, 28, was the first to find her father’s body inside their Brentwood residence. In fact, she was unaware that her mother has also been killed.
Romy Reiner had gone to Rob Reiner’s residence after a massage therapist arrived for an appointment and could not reach the couple. The therapist contacted Romy, who lives nearby, and she went to the home with a roommate to investigate.
Romy discovered her father’s body and, in shock, fled the home. At the time, she did not realize that her mother, Michele Singer Reiner, had also been killed, and only learned of her mother’s death from paramedics after they arrived.
Hours after the bodies were found, the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths. Prosecutors allege he stabbed both parents in what authorities are calling a brutal homicide.
Nick, who has a history of struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, was found and taken into custody without incident. He was held without bail after initially being booked with bail set at $4 million, according to court records.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has indicated the charges carry a possible life sentence or death penalty, though it’s not yet clear if capital punishment will be pursued.
In a public statement, Romy and her brother Jake Reiner described the deaths of their parents as “horrific and devastating,” emphasising the profound loss they are experiencing. They thanked supporters for their condolences and asked for privacy as the family mourns.
Rob Reiner, 78, was a celebrated filmmaker and actor best known for classics such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and Stand by Me. Michele Singer Reiner, 68, was a photographer and producer. Their deaths have prompted an outpouring of grief from friends, colleagues and fans worldwide.
