After Pakistan raised the Kashmir dispute and Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, the Indian envoy, Parvathaneni Harish, said that India ‘will counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in all its forms and manifestations with all its might’.

After Pakistan raised the Kashmir dispute and Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate, the Indian envoy, Harish Parvathaneni, on Monday warned that India “will counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in all its forms and manifestations with all its might”.

In an open debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’, Parvathaneni refuted Pakistan’s claims and said the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were integral and inalienable parts of India.

Parvathaneni further said, “They were, are, and will always remain so. Pakistan’s unwarranted reference to Jammu and Kashmir in today’s open debate attests to its obsessive focus on harming India and its people. A serving non-permanent Security Council Member that chooses to further this obsession in all meetings and platforms of the UN in pursuit of its divisive agenda cannot be expected to fulfill its designated responsibilities and obligations.”

Even though the discussion was on another theme, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s envoy to the UN, mentioned the Kashmir’s dispute and called for the UN’s involvement in its resolution. He further accused India of “blatant breach of international obligations that undermines regional stability, and endangers the lives
and livelihoods of millions” with the suspension of the IWT.

In his rebuttal, Parvathaneni said the IWT would remain in abeyance until Pakistan would not stop sheltering and supporting cross-border terrorism.

Parvathaneni said that Pakistan has violated the spirit of the IWT by inflicting three wars and thousands of terror attacks on India for more than six decades.

“It is in this backdrop that India has finally announced that the Treaty will be held in abeyance until Pakistan, which is a global epicentre of terror, credibly and irrevocably ends its support for cross-border and all other forms of terrorism,” said Parvathaneni.

Parvathaneni further flagged Pakistani hybrid regime’s repressive policies where it has kept in jail a former prime minister on charges that are widely believed to be politically motivated.

“Pakistan of course has a unique way of respecting the will of its people — by jailing a Prime Minister, by banning the ruling political party and by letting its armed forces engineer a constitutional coup through the 27th amendment and giving life-time immunity to its Chief of Defence Forces. Let me be clear – India will counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in all its forms and manifestations with all its might,” said Parvathaneni.
