Chitrangda Singh has been a part of the Hindi film industry for over two decades. The actress has done a variety of roles in her career, from Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi to Inkaar to Yeh Saali Zindagi, from Desi Boyz to Khel Khel Mein and Housefull 5, and from Gaslight to now Raat Akeli Hai 2 that drops on Netflix on December 19.
In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the actress spoke about joining the franchise starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Inspector Jatil Yadav, being attracted to the world of whodunnits, and how 2025 brought a lot of surprises for her.

After Housefull 5, you are a new entrant in this whodunnit as well. What can we expect and how does it feel?
It feels great because I really enjoyed the first film of the franchise. I love crime and thriller movies. But not every murder mystery is good because the treatment has to be right. That slow burn and the way the entire story unravels, that aspect of Honey Trehan was something that I found interesting. I also got the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing cast. It is my absolute privilege.
You have been a part of thrillers before. What attracted you to the world of
Raat Akeli Hai 2?
As I said that it’s a slow burn and that is his style of storytelling. It’s mysterious, intense, and there is a psychological depth to everything, every character and every silence, every moment. Every single movement has a reason behind it. It is very detailed and intricate.
So many filmmakers still continue to struggle to release their movies in cinemas. Does the platform of OTT offer a more level playing field?
The business of cinema is extremely important. But you also need some sponsors trying to do something different and experimental cinema, otherwise we will never move. We will never be able to bet on something new. It becomes boring and then you begin to wonder why the same formula is not working anymore. This happens because we are not spending enough time to find another formula.
Do you feel a film like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi can be made today?
We may not have been able to make it today. Right now, people are very wary of numbers. A filmmaker like Pritish Nandy did not make this film for profits. It was for the love of that part of history, those people that were involved in the Emergency. That generation wanted something to be said about that time. There needs to be a political representation in cinema for that. I don’t know if we can find that kind of passion. Because numbers have taken over everything.
You did Housefull 5 this year and now Raat Akeli Hai 2 drops soon. This will be followed by
Battle Of Galwan. Is it an interesting time for you as an actor?
It is satisfying for any actor that different filmmakers want to work with you- Be it for a series or an OTT film or a commercial film. And I am really enjoying doing all of this. I never thought I would do a film with Salman, but I am. There have been a lot of surprises this year for me.
