While preparing for Dhurandhar, Akshaye Khanna saw shades of his father Vinod Khanna in his transformed look. Prosthetic and character designer Preetisheel Singh recalled the incident.
‘Dhurandhar’ has been making waves at the box office, and one man has been at the centre of conversation. It is none other than Akshaye Khanna, who played Rehman Dakait in the film. Now, the film’s prosthetic and character designer Preetisheel Singh recalled a moment from the shoot when Akshaye Khanna was reminded of his late father, actor Vinod Khanna, when he looked at himself in the mirror.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Preetisheel Singh shared, “I did his look in ‘Chhava’ as well, turning him into Aurangzeb. Of course, he has a lot of experience working with wigs. I wanted to refrain from how he has already been shown and wanted his charisma to come across. There is a suaveness in his character, where his mere presence commands attention. He doesn’t need to say much. I gave him soft waves, and we showed the receding hairline. It is not a full head of hair. I remember doing the trial, he was looking at himself in the mirror, telling me he was reminded of his late father, Vinod Khanna.”
Vinod Khanna, one of Indian cinema’s most respected actors, left an indelible mark on Bollywood before his passing in April 2017 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Throughout the years since his death, Akshaye has occasionally spoken about his father’s influence, and fans have often noted how glimpses of Vinod’s charisma and screen presence can echo in his performances.
The comparison became even more vivid on social media as fans dug out vintage clips of Vinod Khanna from a 1989 charity event in Lahore, where he danced alongside Rekha, a moment that many netizens now associate with Akshaye’s viral entry in the track FA9LA from ‘Dhurandhar’. While some viewers note the similarity as a fun nod to cinematic legacy, others see it as a poetic blend of father-son dynamics in reel life.
The star-studded cast of ‘Dhurandhar’ includes Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, along with Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Saumya Tandon, Gaurav Gera and Naveen Kaushik in supporting roles. Written, directed and co-produced by Aditya Dhar, the film is backed by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
