A viral picture shows US Vice President JD Vance, in a plain white T-shirt, leaning forward with a stern expression, seated in what looks like a restaurant booth, and scolding his wife, Usha Vance. This comes amid speculation over the marriage. The 41-year-old VP has responded to the image with humour
Vice President JD Vance has become the centre of yet another viral rumour, this time over a photo doing the rounds online that claims to show him in the middle of a tense argument with his wife, Usha.
The undated and unverified picture shows Vance in a plain white T-shirt, leaning forward with a stern expression, seated in what looks like a restaurant booth.
Across from him sits Usha, her head slightly bowed, her hand resting against her face, a posture that the internet quickly spun into a supposed “public spat.”
But is any of this actually real? Here’s a fact check.
Did JD Vance ‘fight’ with Usha in public?
JD Vance has now addressed the viral photo that claims to show him scolding his wife, Usha Chilukuri, during a public outing. The 41-year-old vice president brushed off the growing speculation, saying the picture, which many online users suspected was AI-generated, didn’t reflect any marital drama.
“I always wear an undershirt when I go out in public to have a fight loudly with my wife,” Vance joked in a sarcastic post on X on Tuesday, shutting down the rumour with humour.

The image first gained traction over the weekend after influencer Thomas Clay Jr, who describes himself as someone who “busts Republican’s [sic] dumb a–es on the daily,” shared it on Facebook. His post pulled in thousands of likes and comments.
“Looks like things are not so good in Republicanistan,” he wrote. “Usha is a liberal. Always has been. Apparently they were having and [sic] argument loud enough to quiet the restaurant. Why is he wearing a tee shirt?”
As the picture spread across platforms, users debated whether it was real, and AI detection tools suggested it was likely fabricated.
Speaking to the Daily Beast, Clay insisted he hadn’t created the image himself. He also took a jab at Vance, saying, “it is impossible to discern when the boy who cried wolf is lying and telling the truth.”
Vances’ marriage in the spotlight
This isn’t the first time JD Vance has had to address speculation about his marriage to Usha, whom he married in 2014. The couple has been the subject of online theories and rumours, especially after a few recent moments drew extra attention.
In October, the vice president, who converted to Catholicism, faced criticism after publicly expressing that he hoped his
Hindu wife might one day embrace his faith.
“Do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved in by church? Yeah, I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian Gospel, and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way,” he said.
The second couple again faced gossip over the state of their marriage, after the VP embraced late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s widow,
Erika Kirk. The US VP kept his hands on Erika’s waist, while she moved her fingers through his hair. The greeting had set the social media ablaze.
Not long after, Usha was photographed without her wedding ring, which only fuelled the chatter. But Vance dismissed the noise, saying the two are focused on their three young children, who are now three, five and eight.
“I think that we kind of get a kick out of it,” he told NBC News last week, explaining that Usha had simply forgotten to wear her ring in the rush to get to the White House.
Vance has since spoken again about the rumours, saying the
couple takes it all in stride.
“With anything in life, you take the good with the bad. You accept that there are some sacrifices and there are some very good things that come along with it, too. But our marriage is as strong as it’s ever been, and I think Usha’s really taken to it, and it’s been kind of cool to see how she’s developed and evolved in this new role,” Vance said.
