Veteran Bollywood actor Prem Chopra, best known for his iconic villainous roles across decades, was recently diagnosed with a serious heart condition, according to an update from his son-in-law, actor Sharman Joshi. The 90-year-old star underwent a minimally invasive procedure after being diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis, and is reported to be doing much better.
In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Sharman Joshi shared the health update. He confirmed that Prem Chopra had been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis – a condition where the aortic valve in the heart becomes narrowed, limiting blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body. To treat this, doctors opted for a less invasive route known as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a procedure to replace the valve without resorting to open-heart surgery. Joshi expressed deep gratitude to the cardiologists involved, especially naming Dr. Nitin Gokhale and Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao for their “exemplary treatment.”
According to the post, the procedure went smoothly and the veteran actor has since been discharged. “Dad is now home and feeling much better,” Joshi wrote, adding that the support and care from the medical team gave the family confidence.

Aortic stenosis is a heart valve condition marked by narrowing of the aortic valve opening, which forces the heart to work harder to pump blood to the body.
