A young man in UAE rented a vehicle for 114 days and failed to settle the outstanding amount which was reported as $5,500 to the car rental company. The court ruled in the favour of the rental company in accordance with the documents and earlier reports.

A young man in UAE rented a vehicle for 114 days rated at $49.01 per day, failed to settle the outstanding amount and has been ordered to pay $5,500 to the car rental company, according to a ruling by the Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Court.

The court record highlighted that the car rental company filed a lawsuit against the man  demanding for the amount which was unpaid, which in response was ignored by the man despite several reminders. The reminders scaled up to a 114-day hire period. The total fine racked up to $5,500 plus $1,267.15 in traffic fines.

The defendant paid only $1,361.36 leaving behind $5,500 outstanding. In its judgment, the court explained that lease agreements entitle the lessor to payment upon the tenant’s use or ability to use the rented asset, and that the renter is responsible for any loss or damage arising from negligence or misuse.

The proof and reports suggested that the man was responsible for the negligence and the report confirmed that he was liable for the amount claimed. As he offered no valid defence and provided no evidence that the debt had been settled, the court found the claim proven.

The court ruled in the favour of the rental company in accordance with the documents and earlier reports. It ordered the defendant to pay $5,500 along with legal costs and complete procedure.
