India’s biggest airline is heading into another difficult day, as IndiGo passengers across major airports continue to face a wave of flight cancellations and delays.
On day seven of the crisis, the carrier scrapped more than 400 flights, with major hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad seeing severe disruptions, The Hindustan Times reported.
Although the
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has now withdrawn the rule changes that triggered the staffing shortage, the mess from the past week hasn’t disappeared. Travellers are still bearing the brunt.
Many are arriving at airports early in the morning only to discover their flights have been cancelled, pushed to odd hours or delayed with no clear update. While many are yet to receive refunds for their cancelled flights.
Here’s what the situation looks like today.
How many IndiGo flights are cancelled?
IndiGo’s operations continue to reel under pressure on Monday, with an estimated 400–500 flights cancelled across the country. The disruption remains widespread, hitting major airports throughout the day.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport recorded the highest number of cancellations, with 75 departures and 59 arrivals scrapped, a total of 134 flights.
Bengaluru Airport also saw heavy disruptions, with 127 cancellations, including 65 arrivals and 62 departures.
Hyderabad wasn’t far behind. Airport authorities confirmed that 77 IndiGo flights were affected, split between 38 arrivals and 39 departures.
Chennai faced 71 cancellations, 38 departures and 33 arrivals, while Ahmedabad reported 18 IndiGo flights cancelled by 8 am, equally divided between nine arrivals and nine departures.
IndiGo’s nationwide meltdown has also reached Guwahati, where passengers are dealing with abrupt cancellations and little communication from the airline.

One stranded passenger shared her ordeal with ANI, describing how she had been stuck for several days without clarity.
“I had come from Jaipur and had a return ticket for December 5 in an IndiGo flight scheduled at 5.55 PM. It was cancelled, and there was a lot of chaos at the airport, due to which the staff closed the window, and we went back,” she said.
She added that she tried repeatedly over the next three days to reschedule her ticket or reach IndiGo’s grievance team, but said customer support did not respond.

Amid the chaos, the airline says it is slowly regaining control of its operations. IndiGo announced that it now has “growing confidence” that its network will stabilise by December 10, earlier than the previously indicated timeline of December 10–15.

What about refunds?
Refunds totalling Rs 610 crore have been processed so far, said the Civil Aviation Ministry, adding that IndiGo has delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage to passengers across the country.
As per the Union ministry, IndiGo has also been asked to establish dedicated passenger support and refund facilitation centres. These teams must proactively contact affected travellers and complete refunds or arrange alternative travel options without requiring repeated follow-ups. The system of automatic refunds will remain active until operations stabilise fully.
Meanwhile, a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Delhi High Court seeking ground support and refunds for passengers affected by the IndiGo flight crisis.
The court has now agreed to take up the matter on Wednesday, although it said that the Government has already issued some directions on the issue.
Indigo to respond to DGCA’s show-cause notice
Indigo will respond to the Director General of Civil Aviation’s show-cause notice, which demanded CEO Pieter Elbers explain the cancellations that affected almost half of its flights.
In its notice, the regulator said the airline showed “serious shortcomings in planning, supervision, and resource management,” which resulted in major service disruptions.
The DGCA added that the primary reason for the collapse was IndiGo’s failure to align staffing and crew rosters with new fatigue-management rules under the Flight Duty Time Limitations.
It granted IndiGo’s accountable manager and chief executive officer a one-time 24-hour extension to submit their response to the notice issued on December 6 over large-scale operational disruptions and observed non-compliances.
According to the official statement, the two IndiGo functionaries sought more time from the regulator at least till 6 pm Monday to provide a detailed response, it is learnt. Sources said that the DGCA is unlikely to provide any further extension.
IndiGo’s share prices drop
IndiGo’s stock continued its downward slide on Monday, falling by nearly 7 per cent during the trading session.
This marks the airline’s seventh straight day of losses, triggered by the massive wave of flight cancellations last week. Over this period, IndiGo has seen almost Rs 36,000 crore in market value wiped out.
Interestingly, while IndiGo struggles, SpiceJet’s shares have surged. The stock jumped up to 12 per cent, rising for the second consecutive day as travellers shifted to alternative carriers amid IndiGo’s ongoing disruptions.
